Our Engagement

This is a page about us. It’s a work in progress as I just migrated the site over to Wordpress, but here’s our engagement story from the old site.

December 1st, 2001 was the day of the percussion studio fall show at rudder auditorium. Both Kevin and Jenna were performing in the show on that evening, and Kevin had been planning for months to propose to Jenna at the show. About 3/4 the way through the show, Kevin finished playing his final piece. While Jenna was playing in the last piece of the show, “Under the Sea”, Kevin ran backstage into a private dressing room where he would prepare himself for the proposal. Kevin changed into his tuxedo, got the ring and a bundle of flowers for Jenna, and then moved out into the auditorium.

When the show was over, percussion studio went to their curtain call. Jenna anxiously looked for Kevin to line up next to her, but he was no where to be found. Once the curtain was raised and the crowd stopped screaming, the group recognized the graduating seniors (which included Kevin). By this point, Kevin was in the auditorium portal looking at Jenna… and he was very nervous! Nick was recognized, and then Kevin’s name was called, but he was no where to be found. Everyone was like, “Where’s Kevin?”. All of the sudden, from the back of the room, Kevin yells “Here I am!” And then there was more screaming, because almost the whole auditorium knew what was to come.

But Jenna was not one of the ones clued in to what was going to happen, so when Kevin ran on stage, all Jenna could think was, “If you’re going to give me flowers, wait until after the show!!” Somehow, amidst all the screaming, Kevin announced to the audience, “You’re probably wondering why I’m in a tuxedo… but there’s a special someone in this group..” Then he motioned for Jenna to come to the front of the stage and take his hands. He looked into her eyes for what seemed like an eternity to both of them, and then dropped to one knee. The crowd roared, and Jenna finally realized what was happening. While she was screaming, “Oh my gosh!”, Kevin asked Jenna if she knew that this was going to happen. She shook her head “NO!” but Kevin gasped and said, “No wait! Don’t shake your head no!”, to which, the crowd started laughing. When it got quiet again, Kevin said, “Jenna, I love you, and in front of all these people, I want to ask you to be my wife.” But before she could say anything, he gasped and said, “Oh! The ring!” and in all nervousness, could not get to the ring quickly. But when he pulled it out of his pocket, he slipped it on Jenna’s finger and said, “Will you marry me?” All Jenna could do was nod, “YES!” Everyone in the audience laughed and started screaming again, while Kevin swept Jenna off her feet and kissed her.
