Jenna. Jul 2. Basil Plant.
July 2nd, 2010
We planted this just a few weeks ago in our front/side yard. We had spaghetti & meatballs tonight with fresh basil. Nothing like it.
Anyone have a good basil pesto recipe? Looks like we’ll have lots of basil.

Took me forever to find this recipe, but here’s a pretty good one:
About a third of a bag of spinach
Leaves from a few stalks of basil
About four ounces of parmesan, grated or thin-sliced
Two or three ounces of pine nuts
Half a bag of smoked sun-dried tomatoes, chopped (it’s a three-ounce bag)
Zest of one lemon
Handful of chives, chopped
Garlic cloves (really, to taste, I prefer a lot of garlic, so about 6 cloves went into it)
Olive oil as needed (I used sun-dried tomato olive oil for extra deliciousness)
Sea salt and ground black pepper to taste
Blend blend blend! You can pre-chop your basil and spinach for a courser deal, but depending on how well you blend makes the consistency.
My friend Kat came up with this one, and she’s an AMAZING cook.
