Jenna. May 17. Where’s Waldo?
In this picture of a very cool sunset, “Waldo” = a parachuter drifting under the clouds. Can you spot him? (Or her, I suppose?)

This was the poster outside the entrance to the church, advertising the Saddle Ridge VBS in early June.
And in case you can’t see it clearly, it’s a pic of Kennedy with her “mean face” on… The poster says “WANTED: for cheatin’ at card playin’… because she can’t read yet.”

Colby took this picture of me, “Couponing In Action”. Here I’m taking the old Q’s and taking out the ones that are about to expire. You like my coupon box? It’s a re-purposed photo box, complete with the tabs for organizing.

Or, wash it.
This is a Before pic of my day. The ones on the left side are clean, but the ones on the right are definitely dirty and the ones in the dishwasher were clean and needing to be put away.
Also accomplished on The List today: cleaned the rest of the kitchen, mopped the floors, cleaned both bathrooms, changed sheets, and washed towels, sheets and 1 load of clothes.
I think tomorrow I’ll rest.

Cooper was really asleep in this pic. I’m not sure if I could ever sleep like this.

The kids who make me Mom.
All bathed, reading a book and ready for bed. The end to a great day, indeed.

…And down the hill! Today was Colby’s & Kennedy’s birthday party at Mt. Aggie (on the Texas A&M campus). A very fun time was had by all. Here are a few pics, but there was a lot of movement and no posing for pics!
Colby and Kevin sledding down – look at Colby’s smile!
Kennedy hitched rides with Mr. Clay & Jeremiah, then begged for more. No fear, that girl.
And, here’s Carlee hugging Ollie. This is the first time they’ve actually been sweet to each other. Usually they try to take each other’s cups and pacifiers and then chase after each other…

Colby’s school had Family Fitness Day today. The event began with a “1K” walk in the front of the school, complete with tape at the finish line for the runners to break through. Then there was a triathalon (a little run, a little tricycle race, and a jog through the sprinklers). The kids enjoyed the weights station – gallon milk jugs filled with beans that they could lift over their heads.
Kennedy enjoyed the aerobics time – there was a cute kids’ aerobics DVD playing and all the kids and parents got to bust a move to some silly music. Carlee had fun running all over the church; she got her exercise and then took almost a 4 hour nap. Maybe we should have fitness day Every day.
I liked the obstacle course on the playground – hula hoops, ring hops, wheelbarrow, running around the trees, in and out of the bridge and down the slide to finish. The teachers were very creative and it was fun for all (even though it was 94 degrees outside!).
When all was finished, we had a picnic lunch in the front of the church. Colby received a medal with Hebrews 12:1 written on it: “let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us…”
Since there was so much movement, I took a lot of blurry pictures. But I liked this one because it summed up how we spent our hot day – getting re-hydrated. (Note the cute runner’s number on the front of Colby’s shirt.)

If you make chocolate chip cookies, be prepared to find this in your kitchen.
Although, she has to be the cutest Cookie Thief I ever saw.

Many noteworthy things happened today, such as Kevin’s newest nephew being born today. However, I wasn’t there to snap a noteworthy picture, so you get to hear about our home renovations instead.
The inside of our house is being painted this week. This is my bathroom, or Exhibit A. You’ll notice a very bright green and a somewhat darker green color to the side. This is because the lighter green looked like a very good choice until the very bright 5 pm sun shone through the very bright and very large window in my bathroom. Then, my very good choice became “What in the HECK did I do to my walls?”
(By the way, I distinctly remember a girl in my dorm at A&M whose roommate painted their room this lime green color. She said it looked like the Muppets threw up in there. This girl was Mexican and she said the color was hideous, even to her Fiesta tastes.)
So, our very understanding painters gave me a sample of the darker green and that is what you see here. We will finish this out with brown framed mirrors and new light fixtures, hopefully next week.
I suppose I should give you Exhibit A (before).
(In this pic I am standing about 3 steps to the right of where I took the green-on-green pic.)
Do you just love the wallpaper and the halogen light fixtures that left burn spots on my ceiling? I am so glad they are gone!
I’ll keep you updated with pretty pictures when other rooms are finished. I cannot tell you how excited I am about all of this getting done.

I’m stealing the words from Micki’s facebook page, but it’s all so true - “Kim is going to Round Rock, Texas, [for medical school] so we had to say goodbye to her [during handbells] Kim-style… with hats, of course.” These are Kim’s favorite pieces of clothing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her without a hat of some sort in her possession.
We asked Kim to bring her favorite hat to handbells (and we were all going to wear hats to support her hat habit). Little did we know she’d bring her own box of hats [just one of many], and we’d wear hers instead. So, here’s a pic of her hats on the handbell choir.

Today’s post is all Colby, all the time. (Like The Truman Show.) Here’s Colby making his cake while wearing the crown his class gave him at school. [I love that my kids' birthdays are during the school year so that their teachers and classmates can celebrate with them!]
Colby told me he wanted a zebra cake – black/chocolate cake with white/cream cheese icing – with “Colby’s Birthday” written on it. But all I had in the pantry was a yellow cake mix, so I asked Colby if I could make him a cheetah cake instead? He seemed happy with that, so here’s the ingredients for a Cheetah Cake:
1 yellow cake mix + ingredients called for on the box
2/3 c pumpkin puree [for the orange color]
1 c chocolate chips [for the spots]
Mix everything except the chocolate chips in a mixer. Fold in chocolate chips. Pour into pan and bake according to package directions. Then ice with icing (Colby’s favorite part).
And, here’s the finished product. [Colby helped with the chocolate chip-writing.]
Licking the icing off the candles. We ate dinner at Johnny Carino’s – Monday night is family night, the family platters are the price of the individual plates.
And Aunt Alicia gave Colby a book called Zoomer. Here’s the first reading with Doc.
Happy Birthday, Colby-dude. You are truly a blessing to me. I cannot imagine having a better oldest child than you. I love how big your heart is and how much you love to love others. Don’t forget to always love your Ma.
I can’t believe I have a 5 year-old.
