Happy Memorial Day, everyone! We spent the day together as a family, doing yard work and going to Lowe’s, as I promised a few days ago. And, eating on the floor, but that’s not out of the ordinary.
I am grateful to live in a country where my husband gets time off for someone else’s sacrifice. Thank you to our soldiers who are serving overseas, but thank you especially to the families of those who have lost loved ones. Although I never knew my uncle Johnnie, my mom remembers him especially on Memorial Day. Here’s her Facebook status from today:
This Memorial Day I wish to pay tribute to my brother, Captain Johnnie L. Garner, U.S.MC., who died serving our country on Sept. 2, 1967 in Viet Nam. He is a real hero.

I took this picture a few weeks ago when we went with my dad to Red Mango for yogurt (before Colby’s haircut). And I know it’s not Wednesday, but I like Colby’s face.

Ready to swim. And conduct a train.

[You see Carlee in the mirror?]
We went to 2 birthday parties today. The kids will sleep well.

This is as big as my head. In my front yard. Blooming again for the first time this year.

This is reminding me how much yard work we have to do… lots of trips to Lowe’s… lots of weeding and watering and sweating and backbreaking work…
I think I’ll do mine with gloves.

Last week was Colby’s last week of preschool. This week he has been attending Art Camp every morning from 9-12. We are all tired from having to wake up and be somewhere, when school is over. I’ve been begging him to take a nap, but he insists he’s not tired. [I know he's tired, because I'm tired, and he is grumpy, which makes me grumpy too.]
Today I walked in the hallway to find this.

[Actually, I didn't see this first, I heard him snoring and knew he was out like a.. frog?]
Colby had put on his frog costume and was hopping all around the house while his sisters slept. But, even frogs need a rest sometime.

Only one of those sets of eyes was open.
What a funny kid.

Here’s Kennedy’s first tails and Carlee’s first tails.
Now here they are in tails on the same day. [I couldn't snap a pic of both of them together.]

The girls and I met Leah and her boys at the mall this morning, by Kennedy’s request. They rode in the [toy] ice cream truck together. For a long time. I didn’t complain though, because at least they weren’t playing on the filthy carpet.

And it looks like Carlee has been sampling some chocolate ice cream…

I think this might be my favorite room in the house – mostly because I’m in there a lot, but also because I really really love the color.
I’ll give you this link to a Before pic (notice the wallpaper – there was also a matching border with the grapes and vines).
[And oh em gee Carlee has changed a Lot in 4 months' time, yes?]
Here’s after. [Breakfast nook, Left]

[Breakfast nook, Right] – whoever came up with the word Nook must have been a Dr. Seuss fan…

[The rest of the kitchen, in all its glory.]

We went to Cici’s Pizza tonight and there were 3 racing cars games. All the kids climbed in the seats and I had to snap a pic.

Although, I didn’t know Iron Man rode a scooter in the middle of Wal-Mart.

I’ll give you the link to my red bed post from earlier in the year as the Before pic.
And now, After.

I gave Colby a haircut today for the first time in a very long time. Why did it take me so long to do so? Well, we tried this a long time ago when he was 2, but it always turned out badly. He didn’t want to hold still and I didn’t know what I was doing. Trying to cut blonde hair is really tough, because every little mistake is glaring on that cotton-top head. But now that I’ve had about 3 years’ worth of watching him get haircuts in a racecar chair, I decided to give it a whirl.
What do you think?
Before

After

Yes, we had to lose the clothes. If I’m going to do this more often, maybe I should invest in a salon-type covering so I won’t get hair all over him?

Today was Colby’s end of the year program/preschool graduation. The girls [in matching dresses! from Target] decided to give each other hugs.

And, a bonus pic – my grandmother and my aunt Charlotte came over for dinner tonight. Carlee decided to take the purse away, to keep them from leaving. [Or, because she just likes purses.]

Every pic I take of Carlee is blurry.

Colby is so proud of his red room. If I had gotten my way I would have painted it a dark blue, which would be much more muted and less prone to A.D.D. But, Colby loves it! It was the color he wanted, and with his bunk beds and bookshelf covering most of the wall, it really isn’t as bad as you might think. I’m just glad I didn’t fight with his color choice, because he really loves it!
[On the wall is a picture he drew of his room; he showed it to all his friends at school yesterday.]
