Jenna. Mar 16. Saving [Green].

It’s Green week on the Project.

I took trips to CVS, Walgreens, & Target.  I bought:

- 1 roll CVS Paper towels
- 1 Aussie Shampoo
- 2 boxes Kashi crackers & 1 box Kashi granola bars
- 3 Cadbury eggs
- 2 5 lb. bags of Gold Medal flour
- 2 NyQuil & 2 DayQuil
- 1 box Electrasol tabs (dishwashing detergent)
- 2 tubes of Colgate toothpaste
- 2 tubes Neosporin
- 1 box Band-Aids
- 1 box Puffs tissues
- 3 Scotch bubble mailers
- 1 Johnson & Johnson Buddies Bar
- 1 Clorox Toilet Wand

You are looking at $100.58 worth of groceries.  I spent $15.40.  I saved 84.7% of my [Green] money.

Jenna. Mar 15. Dancing with Daddy.

[I'm cheating, because this pic is from yesterday.  But it was too cute not to share.]

We went to eat lunch at Casa Rodriguez in Downtown Bryan.  Spanish serenade music was playing on the loudspeaker and the Daddy swept up the Princess into his arms and danced with her.

Jenna. Mar 14. Birthday Bomb.

Alicia’s birthday isn’t technically til next week (the 21st!), but she will be taking Boards ON her birthday.  Boo, hiss.  So we celebrated early.  Yay!  [Above - Kevin lighting the cheesecake with strategically placed candles.]

[Alicia's nieces and nephew blowing out the candles.  She looked like she needed help, apparently.]

[Kennedy eating a large strawberry.  It covered her whole face, clearly.]

Jenna. Mar 13. Don’t strain your neck.

Yep, make sure you tilt your head for this one.  This is a picture of a picture display we saw at Lowe’s today.  We took a trip there sans kiddos so we could look for things for our house without some extra distractions.  We picked up $300 worth of doorknobs, looked at mirrors, paint colors, and ceiling fans.  I was exhausted by the time we left.

But, what do you think about that framed mirror?

Jenna. Mar 12. Rodeo Day.

Colby and his classmates got to dress in cowboy hats, boots, and jeans.  Then they participated in the preschool version of Field Day – eating a trail snack, trail riding on [stick] horses, roping haystacks, taking a hayride, playing tug-of-war, having sack races, making an Indian paintbrush [a type of flower for all you non-Texans], dancing a hoedown, racing [tricycle] horses, and finally, eating some corn-chip pies.

Here’s Colby dancing in line to the hoedown.

And the teachers were really sweet with Kennedy – she got to take part in the festivities too.

[I have some pics of Carlee on my camera but for the most part she was inconsolable...  she's been cutting molars this week and not getting much sleep at night.  She finally gave up and took a 10-minute nap at the end of Rodeo Day, right before lunch.]

Jenna. Mar 11. Bath?

I walked outside and Colby & Kennedy were using their imaginations to take a bath.  Looks like the same amount of toys are in the pretend bathbox as in the real bathtub.

Jenna. Mar 10. Dinner Date.

Dinner date at Caffe Capri in Downtown Bryan tonight.  It was busy and we talked a lot, so I forgot to take a pic of the inside.

Jenna. Mar 9. Big girl seat.

Carlee’s first night in a booster seat at the big table! (instead of in a high chair)  Don’t worry, she did eat, despite what it looks like in the picture.

Jenna. Mar 8. Trampolining.

Carlee now gets very upset if we go outside and she is not allowed to jump on the trampoline.  (She says, “poh-leen” and points.)  And Kennedy and Colby love to bounce her.  That makes it pretty hard to get a picture of all the fun they have when she is crawling around up there.

Tagged.

My friend Suzy tagged me.  I get tagged a lot but usually the tagging involves very hard-core, thought-provoking and soul-bearing information all held in one blog post, so I usually don’t play along.  But Suzy’s tag is to tell 5 things about myself.  Sorry if you’ve tagged me in the past but I clearly felt very inadequate.  I’m working on that.  Maybe that should be #1?

1. I love chocolate chip cookies with no nuts.  And anything tasty that resembles them, i.e. the Cookie Monster dessert at Cheddar’s or chocolate chip brownies.

2.  I love working out.  I’d do it every day if I could still spend time with my kids.  And when the weather is nicer I will take the girls in my jogging stroller while I run.  [And if I ate fewer chocolate chip cookies, I might not have to work out as much as I do.]

3.  I love my house.  One moth Suzy did a really cool series on her blog – 31 things she loves about her house.  Don’t be offended if you see something like this on my blog soon.  I’m just sayin.

4.  I love my kids.  I think you’ve seen evidence of this on my blog, but just wanted to reiterate it.  They have made me evaluate how short and fleeting this life really is.  And I promise you they are the best kids only because God made them that way.

5.  I love my husband.  These obviously aren’t in order of importance or he would be first, even above chocolate chip cookies.  *gasp!*  The day I married Kevin was the greatest day of my life, and I get to re-live that day every day as his wife.  God did a great thing bringing us together – it could only have been His doing, and I know that no matter how hard things get, there is nothing that will tear us apart.

I think now I’m supposed to tag 5 people.  Really I should be tagging whoever wants to play, but for sake of following the rules and overcoming my inadequacies, I tag Amanda, Leslie, Sara, Brandy, & Rachel.  And no tag-backs!  :)

Jenna. Mar 6. Box Fun.

My mom gave my dad a recliner for his birthday.  So my kids and my 20 year-old sister played with the box.  And a flashlight.

In honor of Read Across America week, I thought I’d give you a picture of our newest bookworm.

Jenna. Mar 4. Zacchaeus.

Today in Bible study we used Zacchaeus and Jesus puppets to tell the story.  This is Kennedy giving Zacchaeus a piggyback ride during music class.  He Is short, after all.

Writing.

I’m taking a break from regularly scheduled pictures to give you an update on something else I’ve been doing this year.  At Thanksgiving celebrations a few months ago, my dear mother-in-law asked me why I hadn’t been updating the blog in awhile?  I thought she just meant she wanted to see pictures of the grandkids. (because after all, isn’t a picture what most of you are looking for when you come here?)  But then she went on to say, “You know, you could be a writer.”  I think she said some other stuff about how brilliant my writing was and how funny I was and the best daughter-in-law I was… I don’t know what she said.  I wasn’t listening; I was having a Lightening McQueen moment when he dreams he’s the spokescar for Dinoco… and then I was jarred back into reality by the need to discipline my sweet children for poking each other in the eyes with said Lightening & Dinoco cars.

So, I put out some feelers… I contacted some blogs I knew and looked up some I didn’t…  Like any time you apply for a job, I knew I’d probably have some disappointments.  For one, I was surprised that none of the faith-based companies replied to me, since in my writing I display an overexuberance of God spilling out of my guts.  But God knows exactly what He’s doing.  And that’s cliche, but true.

Then, Stephanie contacted me and invited me to guest post for the Parenting site at 5 Minutes for Mom a few weeks ago.  I am completely humbled to be given this opportunity, as I’ve loved reading 5M4M for a few years now.  I never dreamed I’d get to write for them.

Here’s the links to my articles and I would encourage you to subscribe to their feed – I also have all of the sister sites bookmarked too.  [parenting, special needs, going green, books, faith, and giveaaways]  I’ve had articles up each Friday for the past few weeks and I have another one to be published this Friday.  And if you can find a decent pic of me to use for my byline, let me know.  I’m a writer, not a design artist.

Jenna. Mar 3. Backseat Messie.

I gave the kids a chocolate chip granola bar on our way home.  This is what I found when we got there.  I think she enjoyed it.
