It was not my intention to belittle or attack anyone, but if my comment comes across that way then I apologize.
If Kevin and Jenna are not interested in my opinion, they can delete my comment. But I don’t see what is wrong with discussing opposing viewpoints.

do you ever want to tell people like this to just sit down and shut up? like, this person obviously doesn’t know you (or any of your friends or family), and yet they feel the need to come into your personal blog and belittle you and all who agree with you.

i find it annoying and offensive and really wish they would just leave things like your post – which clearly was not attacking any one, or even taking a side on the issue – alone.

The contents of the film itself might not be overtly pro-Christian, but the grassroots marketing campaign for the film has largely targetted Church groups and notable media personalities like Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson. The film knows its market.

Anyway, when you go see the film, I hope it compels you to get more interested in this controversy over Intelligent Design. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Dover trial. This is part of the backlash from it; it really is a culture war, but I think unfortunately it’s become a partisan issue that will have negative impacts on the state of science education in America.

Intelligent Design advocates continually conflate “Darwinism” (a term not used by scientists anymore, who simply prefer evolution or evolutionary biology) with “materialism” or secularism and therefore tend to politicize the issue. Of course, it helps their case when a handful of atheist scientists are outspoken about their views, but it masks the reality that science ought not to conflict with religion. There are many scientists around the world (incidentally, none of them interviewed for Expelled) who find the evidence for evolution compelling enough not to disregard it, and at the same time they are devout Christians. I think this whole canard about “persecution” and “teach the controversy” and “academic freedom” is simply there to mask the fact that Intelligent Design is not something science can test, and that is why it is rejected by most scientists – even if they believe in a higher power.
